On 18 September 2018, spiritsEUROPE, CEEV and GS1 in Europe organized a first meeting to share the business issues and the interest of a collaboration. After this first meeting between these stakeholders in 2018 GS1 in Europe organised a first meeting between GS1 in Europe, some European associations (Spirits Europe and Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins - CEEV) and some European retailers and suppliers.

The objective of the meeting was to explore the opportunity of building a common approach and developing a common data model to enable the implementation of the self-regulatory proposal. The work forward will be presented to the European Commission and interested stakeholders by the associations/companies.

The meeting was organised by GS1 in Europe and was attended, among others, by the following organisations: CEEV, Spirits Europe, BeamSUNTORY, Belgian Wine and Spirits Association, BSI, Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac, Colruyt Group, COPA-COGECA, EEV Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins, Diageo, Federacion Española de Bebidas Espirituosas, Fédération Française des Spiritueux, Metro AG, Moët Hennessy, Moët Hennessy Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Rémy Cointreau, Ricard, Scotch Whisky Association, spiritsEUROPE, SpiritsNL, Systembolaget AB, THOFFOOD, UVDL, WSTA, Przemysł Spirytusowy (Polish Spirits Industry) as well as some of the GS1 colleagues from GS1 France, GS1 Spain, GS1 Italy and GS1 Sweden.

Positive reactions led to the decision to collaborate within the GS1 in Europe organization as a neutral place and a network of stakeholders to define a common approach. GS1 in Europe will lead, facilitate and coordinate the collaboration of the industries to discuss, define and agree the attributes for a common data model and the data sharing architecture to list product-specific ingredient and nutrition information.
