This was the topic of the meetings which took place this month, from 14 to 16 of January in Brussels and which gathered representatives from the industry and the GS1 Member Organisations. Improving product transparency by establishing a global data model for Fast Moving Consumer Goods (food and non-food) was the main objective of the work during those three days.

The scope of the project is to help manufacturers, retailers and other supply chain trading partners align their product information and establish a global core set of data at the global level

Next is now the formal approval of the FMCG data models by the GS1 Data Excellence Board over the coming weeks.

Jan Somers, CEO of GS1 Belgilux and member of the GS1 in Europe Regional Executive Committee is one of the sponsors of the project, together with co-chairs from the industry (Metro and P&G). All are very supportive of the work effort and strongly believe in the outcome of the discussions.
