GS1 in Europe and the LoRa Alliance recently launched their official collaboration with the aim to provide greater efficiency and interoperability for supply chain and maintenance operations, strengthen inventory management and simplify data exchanges between systems and stakeholders.

The first pilot project the organizations launched together concerns a collaboration with end customer SNCF (French railway company) in order to implement a more cost-effective identification system for infrastructure and rollingstock. This happens through carrying GS1 identifiers from EPC/RFID tags over LoRaWAN networks.

GS1 in Europe and LoRa Alliance need your participation to:

  • Share best practices
  • Describe technical guidelines for the use of GS1 identifiers over LoRaWAN, addressing RFID coexistence, for all regional parameters
  • Describe a process to capture sensor data, including geolocation coordinates, and share it using EPCIS data exchange in relation with event files. Semantic harmonization will simplify customer processes

The required fields of expertise are at least one of the following:

  • LoRaWAN protocol specifications
  • GS1 identifiers
  • Radio coexistence studies
  • EPCIS standard

Kick-off call June 16, followed by regular calls.
