EuroFIR Cooperation

Background
EuroFIR (European Food Information Resource Network) is the world – leading European Network of Excellence on Food Composition Databank systems. EuroFIR aims at providing the first comprehensive pan-European food information resource. This is an essential underpinning component of all food and health research in Europe.

Since the GDSN Food & Beverage Extension is now used in several European countries, both organisations (GS1 and EuroFIR) are actively involved in the standardization of master data on food and food components. The member community and stakeholder community of both GS1 and EuroFIR also overlap (food manufacturers, food retailers, food agencies and food research institutes). Based on these facts and some preliminary investigations both GS1 and EuroFIR have concluded that their organisations and their members will benefit greatly from a close cooperation.
